Adults refer to animals or humans which have attained their maximum development. In the context of humans adults have implications that are based on moral and social concepts. Legally mature means that a person is at the point of adulthood and is considered autonomous, self-sufficient, and responsible. An adult who is legally mature can be called a major. 18 is the typical minimum age to become an adult, although this may differ depending on country and legal status, in addition to the maturity of the mind.

Adulthood is the time in the human lifespan when the person is at maturity both in physical and mental growth. The majority of people believe that adulthood is attained when you are 20 or more. Mid-life, beginning around 40 years old and is followed by the onset of an ageing process that can last up to 60 years old. The three phases of adulthood include early adulthood (from mid-30s through late-60s) mid-adulthood between mid-30s to late-60s and later adulthood (mid-60s through death). Physical maturation has been completed at the point we are in our early adulthood years (20-40s), although height and weight might rise a bit. In early adulthood our physical abilities are at their highest levels. These include muscle strength as well as reaction speed.
